OUR SCHOOL

The Waldorf International School was founded in 1990 by a group of parents and teachers who had an understanding of Waldorf pedagogy, and whose principal objective was and is the healthy development of the child.  Even though each school is independent from the others, all Waldorf schools follow the indications given by the educator, who founded the first Waldorf school in 1919.  The Waldorf International School is located in Miami, which is a business and cultural center that links Latin America to North America.  Consequently, the result is a diverse and international setting as well as a multi-cultural and multi-racial alternative education school with children from all socio-economic spheres.

Currently, the Waldorf International School consists of Pre-school/Kindergarten to 8th grade. Our school offers children a broad and rich, classical education, as well as a wide range of artistic, musical and movement oriented subjects.  These include woodworking, clay modeling, knitting, painting, violin, recorder, choir, dance, fencing, movement, tennis, and golf.

THE FACULTY

The class teacher is a position unique to Waldorf education.  The class teacher is responsible for the core of the students' education, and therefore must be dynamic and creative in order to awaken the children's interest in learning.  Ideally, the class teacher stays with her/his class from the 1st to 8th grade.  This continuity allows the teachers to have a deep understanding of the physical, emotional, and academic needs of each child.  Specialty teachers offer the class subjects in art, music, language, and movement.
